What we collect

We collect what you send us yourself, and simple statistics about how the website is used:

  • The contact form: your name, your email, your message and, if you fill it in, your company.
  • Email: whatever you write to us, and your email address.
  • Visitor statistics: for every visit we count which page was viewed, without cookies. Your IP address is never stored; it is only used in a scrambled form (a hash) so we can tell visits apart. Only if you say yes to statistics do we also record more detail: how you move between pages and how long you stay, the type of device and browser, the country, the website or campaign that brought you here, and when you send the contact form or follow a link to another website.

The statistics are made with Birkly, our own system, and stay on our own server. We don’t use Google Analytics or any advertising or tracking tools from other companies, and we don’t build profiles of visitors.

Why, and on what basis

We use your details only to reply to you and, if you want, to prepare a quote and work with you.

  • When you ask about a project, we process your details to take the steps you asked for before a possible agreement (GDPR article 6(1)(b)).
  • For other questions, we rely on our legitimate interest in answering the people who write to us (GDPR article 6(1)(f)).
  • We only record the detailed visitor statistics if you agree (GDPR article 6(1)(a)). You can change your mind at any time under “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. The anonymous page counts help us keep the website useful and rely on our legitimate interest (GDPR article 6(1)(f)).

We never sell your details or use them for newsletters you haven’t asked for.

How long we keep it

We keep your message for as long as we need it to reply to you and talk about your project, or until you ask us to delete it. If we work together, we keep what bookkeeping law requires: in Denmark, accounting records are kept for five years (Bogføringsloven).

Visitor statistics are deleted automatically after 180 days.

Who else sees it

Only the people at our studio read your messages. Some companies process data for us so that the website and email work. They only act on our instructions:

  • Website hosting: our hosting provider stores the website and the messages sent through the contact form on servers in the EU.
  • Email: our email provider delivers and stores the emails you send us.

When you visit this website, your browser also loads fonts from Google Fonts and scripts from Cloudflare (cdnjs) and unpkg. To do that, it connects to their servers, which means they see your IP address. They may process it outside the EU.

Cookies and storage

This website sets one cookie, and only once you answer the statistics question: birkly_analytics_consent remembers your yes or no for 180 days, so we don’t ask on every page. You can change your answer at any time under “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.

To keep the pages of one visit together, your browser keeps a random visit number in its session storage (birkly_session_…). It disappears when you close the tab.

To play the pixel transition between pages, the website briefly stores one small note in your browser’s session storage (bt-transition). It is removed as soon as the next page has loaded and is never sent to us.

If you pick a currency for the prices, your browser remembers that choice on your device (bt-currency), so the prices stay in your currency next time. It is never sent to us either.

If you choose a language, your browser remembers it on your device (birkly_language), so the website opens in that language next time.

Your rights

You can ask to see the details we have about you, have them corrected or deleted, limit how we use them, object to how we use them, or get a copy to take elsewhere. Just write to hello@birkly.io.

If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency, Datatilsynet (datatilsynet.dk). We’d appreciate the chance to put it right first.

Changes

If we change how we handle personal data, we update this page and the date at the top.
